The travel theme, popping up in many of the latest men’s shows, also appeared at Tommy Hilfiger. The designer did not, however, send his man off to distant places across the ocean but familiar, easy to reach destinations, at least for the upper class American. From Hawaii to Martha’s Vineyard for a boat trip or relaxing on the patio at home, comfortable but sharp clothing, with a close-fitting blazer and slim trousers, even in a short version with turn-ups, while underneath is an alternation of shirts and ties or crew neck sweaters, often with sailor stripes, teamed with sportier pieces such as anoraks and baseball jackets. Casual and elegant also blend well in the use of materials, for example in a tailored suit teaming a linen jacket with satin trousers.
