The runway was turned into an American football field to celebrate the brand’s 30th anniversary. What other sport could encapsulate Tommy Hilfiger, one of the most representative stars and stripes designers? Love and football, football and love. Drawing inspiration from ‘Love Story’, the show featured Ali MacGraw lookalikes in preppy ’70s looks, little bombers, duffle coats and faux fur blouses, pleated skirts and dresses with contrasting athletic stripes, colours including bordeaux, brown and blue and lace-up football boots. It’s a fresh, young collection, touching on college days and sports club symbols, with ’40s retro references (still sporty), using lots of faux-fur for coats (“because it’s good for the planet”) and bouclé wool plaid motifs. The leather dresses nod to football jerseys, with the 30 loud and proud below the ‘Hilfiger’ name.
