Sonia Rykiel’s theme was night birds, “les oiseaux de nuit” – the writers, artists and thinkers who wake at sunset and live by night. So there were bird motifs on everything, macro-sequinned on a t-dress worn over a long skirt, reproduced in a silky, colourful total look, micro-printed or as a camouflage on asymmetric mini-dresses with flounces, or else on pyjama-suits. Even the thin chain belts had bird-shaped clasps, while long fringes on other dresses recalled feathers and the movement of wings. The finale was all sequins – as sparkly and iridescent as only certain intense nights can be.
