“Beauty is a dialogue with the mirror” claimed the pre-show notes at Sonia Rykiel. So there was a whole series of sparkle and iridescence to reflect back into the mirror: metallic insets on knits and skirts, trousers in silver leather, velvet dresses (some iridescent and printed), up to the final apotheosis – long dresses with splits decorated with sequins. The brand’s iconic stripes decorated thin, often high-necked sweaters worn under double-breasted navy coats with shearling collar or coloured furs, but also appeared on mini-skirts and high-waist flared trousers, while another recurring motif was the grey-black checks on coats, dresses and outfits in metallic tweed with frayed edges. Transparencies, plunging necklines and heels worn with ankle and over the knee socks added a sexy, Lolita touch to the mood.
