The two elements that immediately grabbed the attention at Simone Rocha were knots and cross-body straps, all the more new-looking because they were layered over or decorating romantic dresses in diaphanous and sometimes sheer materials. The designer of Chinese descent produced a kind of ‘poetic bondage’, a homage to Japanese photographer Nobuyoshi Araki, whose work on the body explores fetishist techniques. Most of the dress bodices featured crossover or horizontal bands in contrasting or matching macramé, while sheaths and more complex pieces with large pockets, in a spongy material, were crisscrossed by bands with obi fastenings ending in big bows. The show ended with bamboo prints, dresses in plastic topped with crossed over strips of silk and lots of transparency.
