In 1919 Lenin commissioned Vladimir Tatlin to build a monument to the Third International, but it was never built. Rick Owens drew inspiration from the episode by reconnecting to the legendary construction of another tower, the Tower of Babel – a biblical metaphor for human pride that leads to confusion and misunderstanding between peoples. The collection was about control and order in chaos and responsibility in hedonism. In the courtyard of Palais de Tokyo, amidst coloured smoke, his unsettled humanity paraded in ripped tops held together by tent poles, which reappeared later in a series of nylon parkas (the poles are sold separately). Cropped denim jackets and slim blazers paired with asymmetric denim skirts with built-in bumbag and extra-large trousers with side buttons looked decidedly easier to wear.
