Shades of blue, grey and brown before ending with the black and white of a tuxedo; Ralph Lauren’s collection for Purple Label proceeded by groups of colour, with blue dedicated exclusively to formal wear – single and double-breasted suits – but worn with espadrilles, a sign of relaxed elegance that translated into destructuring and light, wrinkled fabrics. Grey and brown were used for the classic suit, some as separates but still with espadrilles, and for outdoor looks, with biker jackets, bombers and safari jackets teamed with light sweaters and white trousers, jeans and cargo pants. Aside from the black and white of dinner suits, the same colour pairing was used on graphic art deco jacquard designs of the New York skyline.
