Using the tried and tested ‘see-now-buy-now’ formula, Ralph Lauren is making public another of his passions, which may even top his love of fashion: cars. The designer’s show was set in his Bedford Mills garage, with the models walking through parked cars, including a super-rare 1938 Bugatti Type 57SC Atlantic. The opening looks were a series of tailored suits in houndstooth and Prince of Wales, paired at times with long double-breasted coats, which later became long dresses of various types, from a bustier to a slip dress, some with a shiny iridescence. More in-theme looks followed: leather pieces, biker jackets, evening wear that recalled the chrome and numbers of racing cars, with red, yellow and metallic silver in line with the display.
