“A repetitive use of a repetitive medium”. The quote is by Agnes Martin, and Massimo Nicosia, at the helm of Pringle of Scotland, could not resist associating it with his own work with knitwear. The motifs are repeated: the argyle, tartan, crochet, grids and checks that Nicosia produces every season, each time seeking out a new vocabulary. This time, for example, he came up with a pixel-effect chunky sweater, a V-neck knit with a leather front panel with argyle motifs layered over an orange turtleneck, warm crew necks with the check used for outerwear, all over designs and as an inset. While the trousers tended to be slim and ankle-length, the knits were oversize, with the sleeves, if not turned up, almost completely covering the models’ hands.
