Palm Angels’ young men were made to suffer the Californian sun while covered from head to foot, with a few exceptions, by the brand’s creative director Francesco Ragazzi. Entitled ‘Black Sun’, it drew inspiration from the 1986 surf riot in Huntington Beach, where the largest annual professional surfing competition is held and disputes often erupt. California and surfing were the basic themes behind these ‘urban warrior’ or ‘beach resort’ looks. Tracksuits with side bands and/or colour blocking had collars and hoods pulled up to cover part of the face, oversize sweatshirts and kimono shirts were cinched at the waist with an extra-long technical belt over nylon trousers or bermuda shorts, while multi-pocketed jackets were paired with cargo trousers. The patterns ranged from camouflage to Californian palm trees.
