There was no recurring theme in the new Oscar de la Renta collection, perhaps because the creative duo taking Peter Copping’s place, Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia, who have worked previously at de la Renta, do not yet have clear ideas about the best way to harness the (onerous) legacy of the founder and at the same time bring it up-to-date. The show opened with a series of looks in black with a maxi gold flower appliqué, followed by red and/or orange outfits that alternated high-waist trousers and glossy top with bustier dresses embellished with iridescent effects. Shine reappeared on sequinned dresses in vivid colours and on multi-coloured knits with contrasting diagonal stripes under masculine suits. Black & white floral motifs brought the show to a close.
