David Koma’s signature sensual cut-outs and sharp cuts once again featured in the new Mugler collection, this time influenced by the military rigour of the Naval Academy, which transformed outfits and mini-dresses into pseudo-uniforms complete with buttons and crests. Tops and mini-skirts were given big utilitarian pockets and epaulettes, while cargo pants were skinny and came in military colours. Although more understated, Koma’s sensuality came through in the necklines that revealed the shoulders, the new erogenous zone, in the high splits revealed by pleated skirts, in the cut-outs and asymmetry, the belted waist, and in the visible underwear paired with metallic details.
