Many seasons ago, Miuccia Prada began ripping up ’50s and ’60s clothes and creating collections that looked like synthetic linings and leftover haberdashery. They made a return to the runway in this Miu Miu show in the form of cocktail dresses, tops and shirts, micro-shorts, underskirts decorated with bows large and small, roses and lots of sparkle. At a time when the talk is of ‘couture’ coming back after so much sportswear and streetwear, Miuccia’s move was cleverly strategic given that her couture is ‘primitive’, purposefully patched-up, as if to say, ‘it’s coming back but these are early days’. So, as well as pairing it with tailoring, with some leather blazers and coats, she also teamed it with denim pieces with visible topstitching, cropped knitwear, sequinned pieces, and pop socks in jewelled satin sandals and platforms.
