Red, along with the more classic black and white, is next summer’s colour. Michael Kors was one of many to welcome the passionate tint, but the tone here was romantic, similar to that of an old novel, featuring girls in dresses with fil coupé, printed or embroidered flowers, worn with a tight belt that sometimes crossed over the abdomen or wide cowgirl belts. No doubt this girl has guts and she proves it by also wearing masculine suits and shirts, suede trenches or adding a few little studs to the flounces on her skirts. But the light blouses with loose sleeves and drawstring necklines, the pleated skirts, the lace and transparencies all spoke of a new romanticism that many designers have welcomed with enthusiasm, at least here in New York.
