Exuberant, colourful, excessive; the new Marc Jacobs collection is a tribute to the Ziegfeld Follies, the explosive Broadway shows of yesteryear. It was a sumptuous show just like those days of old, with bright make-up and a host of stars in platform ankle boots and sky high heels in bold colours and prints on the red carpet. A mix & match of cinema, Catholic, military and popular references that teamed golf and grunge shirts with soubrette skirts with high splits, college sweatshirts and jackets and high-waist masculine trousers, as well as reproductions of the stars and stripes flag on knits, blouses and fringed jackets. There were also masculine suits and blazers with statement shoulders, while long dresses were all low necklines, appliqués and embroidery, lace and sequins.
