Marc Jacobs paid homage to hip-hop in his ‘Hip-Hop Evolution’, a tribute he says dates back to when he first began to feel the influence of this culture while studying at the High School of Art and Design. Mixed with party-girl elements, such as iridescent mini-dresses worn with opaque tights, cheeky necklines and transparencies, there was ‘bling-bling’ jewellery, sky-high platforms, jumbo corduroy jackets with fur collar and big headgear including peaked caps. The looks had a clear Seventies feel, a nod to the movement’s 1973 origins, so there were flared trousers, vintage jumpsuits and track pants, turtlenecks and zipped knits in the decade’s classic brown.
