Reality, normality, everyday life – these are terms that many designers have used to describe their latest collections. For Junya Watanabe the everyday is all about work and “the legit way to wear workwear”. Watanabe showcased a series of utilitarian looks in collaboration with Carhartt and Levi’s that featured pockets large and small, contrasting insets, visible stitching, splashes of colour like blotches of paint, in mainly brown and blue shades in keeping with the theme. Also suitable for the mood were boxy jackets, comfortable trousers or bermuda shorts, matching or separates, but also more tapered jeans with turn-ups, solid colour or checked or striped shirts, basic or printed T-shirts, shirt-jackets and patchwork anoraks made with pieces of backpacks.
