To her customary experimentation with innovative materials using cutting-edge techniques that give a sci-fi edge to her collections, Iris van Herpen this time added an all-new element – wearability. It meant that her scientific and futuristic approach had a more ‘conventional’ look. Sinuous and mainly mini dresses, with the exception of a few pairs of high-waist trousers, clean and minimal lines, also created by laser cuts, left room for textures and iridescence by applying a synthetic material that gave a crystal effect, while other surfaces had a three-dimensional and/or undulating and hand-pleated appearance that seemed to give the fabric a life of its own. Metallic sheen was emphasised in the finale by an impalpable liquid silver on elegant mesh dresses.
