At the end of the animated film ‘Titan A.E.’, the energy beams released by an explosion create a new celestial body with a stable atmosphere on which the heroes can settle, now that Earth is wrecked. Iris Van Herpen’s imaginative talent drew inspiration from the process of creating a new planet for the wrinkled or 3D effect wafer-like surfaces of her mini-dresses, in her signature mix of organic forms and synthetic materials. The circle shape dominated the silhouettes and cuts, while three-dimensional motifs, developed alongside textile designer Aleksandra Gaca, provided volume and movement, as if the fabric itself were in constant transformation. In certain looks, metal mesh grid structures encaged the body like body-shield bodices, while others featured more fluid, almost liquid, shapes. The half boots by Noritaka Tatehana were in pointed crystal and leather.
