A portrait of an artist, or rather of artists, on the Hugo runway, for which creative director Bart De Backer drew inspiration from figures such as Basquiat to produce a relaxed, casual style that favoured oversize shapes and soft cuts, just like the German brand’s very first collection in 1993, which inspired De Backer. All-white outfits opened the show with loose blazers and/or shirts with comfortable trousers puddling over solid sneakers, some of which were paint-splattered. Abstract prints followed on T-shirts and vests so thin they were transparent, worn under pyjama-suits or more elegant suits. Loose belted overalls, work jackets, basic overcoats and sweaters with extra-long sleeves completed this collection of comfortable clothes in basic colours, brightened by red and prints.
