The collection’s title is a sign of the creative chaos that Alessandro Michele showcased for Gucci. It’s hard to sum up the mood of “The alchemist’s garden”: better to immerse oneself in the designer’s dream-like atmosphere populated by plants and flowers, mythological references and a dash of the brand’s tradition. The bombastic style came from the over-abundance of layers, fabrics and patterns that stunned the onlookers. The show ranged from oriental grace to punk echoes, through entomological and botanical studies. The dresses were soft or flounced, seemingly belonging to a princess or a gypsy, full of details such as bows, cuffs and crystals. This fairy-tale climate also found room for a few jackets and coats suitable for everyday wear. After all, a little shine never hurt anyone: try it out, but perhaps not all at once.
