Inspired by the ballet ‘Giselle’, Elie Saab’s new collection was a dark, romantic offering that always has a certain appeal. The headbands and kohl-rimmed eyes were two early signs of the duality of the mood, which combined printed biker jackets and chiffon dresses, polka dot tulle mini-dresses and tapered pirate boots, velvet jackets and cloaks and long organza dresses. Elie Saab was going for something rich and theatrical and he nailed it with all the embroidery and ruches, lace and transparencies, feathers and fur, bows and ribbons, bright velvet and Art Deco motifs. The intense colour palette included black, aubergine and cobalt blue.
