Rei Kawakubo for Comme des Garçons showcased a collection about creative resistance to the horrors of the world. Inspired by the Brutalist architecture of the Russian embassy in Paris, it included a series of sculptural dresses with wide crinoline skirts featuring digital reproductions of Arcimboldo paintings or photo-shopped Dutch floral still lifes. Manga and cartoon characters and sinister black crows appeared on flared coats, pleated cloaks and kimono-dresses, while asymmetric, three-dimensional constructions were made from patchworks of materials. Everything was dominated by a palette of dark colours, with the exception of two all-white looks which recalled celestial beings, especially a voluminous tweed coat.
