Olivier Rousteing’s collection for Balmain was the continuation of his latest menswear show, i.e. lots of black and white and a homage to France, with sequinned or frayed bouclé Breton stripes on sinuous tops, dresses and skirts that highlighted femininity. The silhouettes were elaborate, packed with embellishments such as feathers, ruffles, fringes, cheeky cut-outs, bright appliqués, contrasting insets, most of which appeared in metallic weaves that emphasised the iridescence. Layered looks featured long mesh dresses with visible underwear, extra-long knits over skinny patent leather trousers tucked into leather pirate boots, fringed jackets over metallic mini-dresses, lots of sensuality and glamour that confirmed the aesthetic to which Rousteing has accustomed his audience.
