“I wanted to make denim more couture, take it away from what it is really known for, for being too daywear, I wanted to make it more couture & classic and play with the shapes”. That said, Olivier Rousteing for Balmain open the runway with a series of total looks in pale denim with lots of layering: a jacket over a cassock with crossover lacing, bermuda shorts over ultra-skinny trousers, a biker jacket over a hooded knit, leggings peeking out from under rolled up trousers. The layering continued with the next outfits, which were dominated by bold tints daringly put together, relaxed lines and, at times, excessive decoration using stones and beads on a cadet jacket, silver or multi-coloured knitwear, tribal jewellery over glossy silk and suede surfaces.
