The Peter Schlesinger book, ‘Checkered Past’, a photographic snapshot of the ’60s and ’70s, inspired Pablo Coppola’s new collection for Bally, which looked to that past and the people in it, an irresistible mix of dandies, rock-stars and artists with a pinch of nostalgia. David Hockney and the others, from Hollywood to Swinging London, were clear to see in the slim double-breasted black and white checked suit, in the purple tuxedo over a striped rugby shirt, in the coats with astrakhan collar, and in the pyjama-suits paired with sneakers. And more, turtlenecks layered under patterned shirts, the clashing colours, the two-colour socks, the freedom to pair different styles while still looking impeccable.
