Stacey Bendet dove into the history of New York’s iconic Chelsea Hotel, known chiefly for having hosted writers, musicians and artists over a long period. The collection’s folk imprint, part of the Bendet signature style, was expressed with flounced, ruched, handkerchief hemmed dresses with asymmetric and/or drop shoulders, a pastel colour palette with bold floral prints reminiscent of a spring garden. The tops, skirts and trousers flaring out in pure Seventies style featured floral motifs or embroidery, while monochrome or sequinned party dresses were better suited to a party at the Hotel Plaza, but in general the fresh contemporary, bohemian atmosphere of the Chelsea was predominant.
