The starting point of Matthew Williamson’s collection was the horoscope and its iconography, including the colours of the zodiac’s birthstones. Shades of jade, amethyst, sapphire and garnet, made more intense by sparkling and satiny effects, coloured the surfaces of long, fluid dresses with deep splits and necklines, or else very high-necked, with long transparent sleeves. The alternative were jumpsuits, cigarette pants or knee-length skirts teamed with matching or contrasting blouses, in a mix & match that was the standout feature of the show. But more than the zodiac signs, embroidered in gold onto dresses and sash-belts, the real focus here was the floral prints, heightened by the use of brocade and silk, along with the colour palette, which in certain looks duetted with fur and animal details. Suede ankle boots with fringes completed the looks, infusing an overall bohemian twist.
